Eye on the Scene: Grace Bowers at Shelburne Museum

Grace Bowers & the Hodge Podge at Shelburne Museum, Friday, June 27 The Ben & Jerry's Concerts on the Green series, with the help of Higher Ground Presents, started summer off with four huge outdoor shows at Shelburne Museum last week. On Monday, lovebirds Katie Crutchfield, aka Waxahatchee, and Kevin Morby brought both their bands for a sold-out show. On Tuesday, hard-to-define (and hard-to-pronounce) Khruangbin also sold out. On Wednesday, the field filled up again for the triple bill of BNNY, Briston Maroney and headliner Peach Pit. Friday looked like the perfect night for some rock and roll — moody skies, relentless wind and two double-guitar groups — so I had to be there. Gary Clark Jr., Austin's four-time Grammy-winning guitarist, headlined the show, playing alongside longtime bandmate Eric "King" Zapata. For the opener, Grace Bowers took center stage on a right-handed Gibson SG Special, with lefty Prince Parker playing an upside-down, reverse-strung Fender Stratocaster. I loved the visual of that ripping combo. Both the guitarist and the photographer in me were thrilled to be in the house…
